M-Phenylenediamine(English name m-Phenylenediamine),also known as 1,3-Benzenediamine(1,3-Benzenediamine,1,3-Phenylenediamine),1,3-Diaminobenzene(1,3-Diaminobenzene),referred to as MPD.It is white needle-like crystals at room temperature,soluble in ethanol,water,chloroform,acetone,dimethylamide,slightly soluble in ether,carbon tetrachloride,insoluble in benzene,toluene,butanol.Unstable in the air,easy to turn light red.This product is flammable.Combustion decomposition products are carbon monoxide,carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides.M-Phenylenediamine is a toxic chemical that irritates eyes and skin.

　　The substance can be absorbed into the body through the skin and ingestion through inhalation of its vapor.Repeated or long-term exposure may cause skin allergies,which may affect the kidneys and blood,leading to kidney failure and the formation of methaemoglobin.The effects may be delayed and medical observation is required.M-Phenylenediamine is widely used in the manufacture of disperse dyes,reactive dyes and direct dyes,and cement accelerators.The molecular formula is C6H8N2.
